LAST-A-FOAM® R-9300 Continuous Insulation Block Series

Reliable, insulation blocks support heavy building and equipment loads

Background

In cold-storage and industrial facilities, LAST-A-FOAM® R-9300 Structural Continuous Insulation construction blocks create an insulation envelope from the building roof to below ground. Combining their high-strength structural support with a thermal barrier stems energy losses at the slab, walls and roof. Architects, engineers and other design professionals use them to fulfill a full range of applications.

The Challenge

Develop a wood replacement product that supports heavy structural loads with minimal deflection while extending a building insulation envelope from the roof to the foundation.

Key requirements include the following:

  • Ensures minimal energy loss to cooler/warmer earth at the foundation
  • High compressive strength to support building and equipment loads
  • Creep resistant – resists distortion under load over time
  • Locks out moisture – closed-cell material does not absorb water
  • Chemically and biologically inert – will not rot or decompose
  • Does not promote steel corrosion
  • Does not attract or support insects or vermin
  • Will not release chemicals into surrounding soil
  • Compatible with grouts, adhesives and concrete
  • Contributes to LEED certification

Applications

Subgrade and ground level

General Plastics’ structural panel blocks connect wall insulation to the foundation perimeter insulation when placed beneath precast and tilt-up concrete walls to support wall loads. Similarly, connecting the perimeter foundation insulation to a building’s interior insulation through our Thermal Column-Bearing Blocks prevents cooled or heated interior air from escaping through the surrounding ground and vice versa.

LAST-A-FOAM® R-9320 Thermal Floor Reinforcement Blocks provide economical load-bearing flooring and equipment support for insulated metal floor panels, while our Tank Vessel Isolation Protection Blocks thermally isolate chiller equipment from support structures. Both of these products prevent thermal energy loss while minimizing condensation.

Wall level

Smaller insulated polyurethane foam blocks reduce thermal transfer at the structural support penetrations needed for canopies and mansards.

Rooftop level

General Plastics’ Roof Equipment Support Blocks brace HVAC and other equipment while cutting utility costs. Placed within the building’s roof insulation stack, they prevent radiant heat transfer to the building’s interior, reduce the load on cooling equipment and maintain continuous insulation at all structural roof penetrations. Our custom-cut, pre-drilled Perimeter Fall-Protection Blocks thermally isolate structural support while contributing to industrial and commercial roof safety fall-protection systems.

Key  benefits of polyurethane block

Efficiency
Foam’s insulating qualities reduce thermal bridging through adjoining materials.

Guaranteed Performance
The enduring physical properties of our
blocks are guaranteed with certified testing.

Smooth Installation
Blocks arrive ready to use, with holes pre-drilled if desired.

Solid Track Record
Our thermal column-bearing blocks have been sold and remained stable in continuous use for 20-plus years.
