It’s very exciting to be part of the NASA Space Launch System program. We’re pushing the limits beyond where human exploration has gone before and that system will deliver large payloads to space, meeting the needs of future generations of human space flight.
NASA Space Launch System is a super-heavy lift launch vehicle. We will launch in 2018 with the first flight that’s designed to enable deep space exploration missions. The rocket boosters that General Plastics foam supports is part of the NASA Space Launch System, and the system is intended for deep space exploration.
As we were working on the nozzle plug for the SLS booster system, specifically, we ran into some manufacturing problems. And so we were looking for another vendor, and we knew the reliance we’ve had on General Plastics in the past and looked to them to see if they have a foam product that could meet our needs. We were able to work closely with their team and find a foam, a polyurethane foam, that met our specifications and met the reliability and manufacturing requirements for our system.
General Plastics has been quick to respond to the needs of Orbital ATK as we work through design solutions. They understand the requirements of aerospace and defense, and they also have produced products that are cost-effective.
For Orbital ATK to be a partner that our customers can count on, we need suppliers that we can count on just as well. And, General Plastics has been a supplier that we’ve been able to count on in the past, and we expect to count on in the future.
