

General Plastics to Spotlight Premier Polyurethane Foams for Nuclear Container Liners at WM2016 Conference
Industry-leading manufacturer of energy-absorbing fire-insulation liners will demonstrate protective properties of LAST-A-FOAM® FR-3700 Performance Core Series in Phoenix, Arizona, March 6-10, 2016
Tacoma, Wash. – February 26, 2016 – General Plastics Manufacturing Company, which has protected nuclear transportation packages from fire and collision for four decades, will be exhibiting at the 2016 Waste Management Conference March 6-10 in Phoenix, Arizona. Considered the foremost international conference focused on the management and disposition of radioactive material, this event attracts thousands of participants from around the world. General Plastics will showcase its full line of nuclear container liner foams at Booth #632 in the Phoenix Convention Center. There, attendees will be able to observe live drop tests demonstrating the material’s energy-absorption capabilities.
The company’s rigid, closed-cell polyurethane LAST-A-FOAM® FR-3700 Performance Core Series offers proven long-term performance as an impact-absorbing and fire-insulation liner in radioactive material (RAM) transportation packages. These foam products fully satisfy RAM package regulation for energy absorption and exposure to fire in accident conditions. They are CFC-free and available in densities ranging from three to 40 pounds per cubic foot with a high strength-to-weight ratio.
LAST-A-FOAM® outperforms wood and other materials in nuclear material applications. The formulation is specially designed to allow predictable impact-absorption performance under dynamic loading. At the same time, it provides an intumescent char layer that insulates and protects hazardous materials, even when exposed to pool-fire conditions.
Custom designed and built LAST-A-FOAM® FR-3700 liners provide protection for the most common types of radioactive waste containers: drum containers, MAP-12; OPUS; Travellers; TruPact I, II, II; UX-30 containers; and impact limiters.
