Job description

Fabricates and assembles plastic products, applying knowledge of working characteristics of plastics and bonding techniques, using precision instruments, hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment. Reads and interprets blueprints, work orders, and related documentation to determine methods and sequence of operations and dimensional and finish specifications.

  • Operate various cutting equipment such as band saws, table saws, routers and shapers; operate various mixing equipment
  • Manipulate small tools such as micrometers, calipers, box knife, exacto knife
  • Spray materials (colors, adhesives, etc) onto plastic/foam parts
  • Cut, deflash and fabricate various rigid and flexible foam parts
  • Read, interpret and convey instructions, verbally and in written form

Competencies

  • The employer requires that workers have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must be able to receive and interpret instructions and directions from supervisors and peers
  • Must demonstrate good judgment to perform the job correctly and safely

Physical Requirements

  • Standing 8 hours per day
  • Finger dexterity – the ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
  • Arm-hand steadiness – the ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position

Job Description:

As the EH&S Specialist at General Plastics you are responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of company policies and procedures that guarantee the adherence of Local, State, and Federal environmental, health and safety regulations. This position will report to the VP of Materials Technology and is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and reporting on continuous improvement projects and EHS performance metrics. Incumbent will uphold company values of integrity and respect for the individual while working passionately with the team to maintain a customer focus and sustain financial results.


Key Accountabilities:
• Continuously reduce injury/incident rate by 15% annually
• Ensure 100% adherence to Local, State, and Federal EPA reporting
• Initiate policies and protocols that result in zero-findings from formal inspections and internal self-inspections

Job Duties:
• Prepare annual reports for Local, State and Federal agencies
• Conduct Hazardous Communication Training for employees on safe handling of chemicals, exposure limits, protective equipment, spill response, hazardous waste, and related subjects in accordance with OSHA/WISHA requirements
• Oversees the collection, labeling, storage and inspection of hazardous waste
• Oversees DOT hazardous waste training updates for labeling, packaging, and shipping including required testing
• Prepares and updates Safety Data Sheets for all General Plastics materials
• Reviews SDS for new products and processes
• Administers respiratory protection plan including medical clearances, training, and fit checks
• Manages air quality testing
• Manages Storm-water reporting and adherence to permit requirements
• Oversees the operation and maintenance of the methylene chloride recycling, support awareness and training programs, including monthly inventory and rolling 12 month emission report
• Prepares updates and annual progress reports on the pollution prevention plan
• Investigates accidents
• Maintains Emergency Response Plan
• Maintains and updates internal environmental and safety policies to reflect evolving agency expectations
• Audits and maintains all documentation relating to training, audits, annual reports and emissions

Experience:
• Demonstrated top-tier safety record
• History of implementation of continuous improvement projects
• Demonstrated ability to manage hazardous waste systems
• Experience conducting air quality tests and reports
• 5 years' experience as a Safety Professional in a chemical and/or manufacturing facility

Education:
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
• Advance degree or professional certification (Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, or equivalent)
• Certifications in SH&E related fields – may include CIH, NEBOSH Certificate, ASP, AEM, etc.
