NUCLEAR MATERIALS TRANSPORT:

LAST-A-FOAMŪ FR-3700 is used in insulating and isolating radioactive nuclear materials from shock, impact, and fire damage in crash situations. It has been specifically formulated to produce an intumsecent, insulating char in fire situations, which keeps excessive heat from dangerous cargoes.

Another nuclear industry application for LAST-A-FOAMŪ FR-3700 is for safety blocks placed under nuclear reactor components to be moved during plant dismantling. The special impact-absorbing properties of LAST-A-FOAMŪ prevent the release of nuclear material by keeping components from shattering or bursting if dropped.

APPLICATION EXAMPLES:

  • AL-SX, a 16-gallon stainless steel drum overpack assembly.
  • MH-2800, a medium-sized 30" diameter by 42" container with five machined-foam components per unit.
  • TRUPACT-II, a large 96" diameter by 120" long container for transportation of transuranic waste to the WIPP repository in New Mexico.
  • UX-30, a 44" diameter by 96" long container for uranium hexaflouride transportation.
  • General Plastics Manufacturing Company has produced 25+ different designs of impact limiters, overpacks, impact pads, and missile shock-isolation pads over the past two decades.
